Russell doesn't miss a sketch
Russell studied Fine Art at Leeds Art College and Leeds Metropolitan University and has been painting for many years. He has his own gallery in Timble where he continues his visual and professional experience.
His work can be described as contemporary, in that he begins with a thought, a sketch, a theme, an idea, a photograph or a study based on a memorable place he has visited. All must portray imagination and originality.

Russell’s work starts with research and under painting. His ideas are based initially on his thoughts and feelings towards the subject. From this preparatory point, the work progresses into a visual statement, an experience, with an adult sense associated with the painting.
The shapes, depth, marks and vibrant colour Russell uses are central, as these all contribute to the work and allow him to grasp the essence of the painting.

Division of the shapes, marks, light or heavy texture and colour are necessary, as this gives a focused balance to the painting.
When Russell senses the composition is finished, the colour is correct, the result is clean, fresh and full of liveliness, he then leaves it to the viewer to interpret. At this point, the viewer’s interpretation will also give meaning to the painting.
In some cases, Russell paints with special implements, a practice he is associated with. He has completed commissions for both private and corporate buyers in Europe and is known for his original, creative work.
