Kindred Spirit Collection
“When I commissioned Russell to paint me three paintings, each one 91x102cm, I wanted an artistic expression of my emotional connection with my two brothers. As an identical triplet, there is a bond that is impossible to put into words - we are from the same root, but have grown into individual branches - we are genetically the same, but each have a character, strengths and frailties of our own. When I saw the pictures I was truly blown away - the colours and textures are alive, of such depth and feeling that you can sense the energy within them. The same "veins" flow within each picture. Though each piece is unique, you know that they are from one inspiration - you would appreciate that even without witnessing all three together in one place. Though many miles apart, my brothers and I each have one of the collection - separated geographically yes, but Kindred Spirits always... Always have been, always will be! Russell, my sincerest thanks for such a wonderful collection.”

The Timble Inn
“We've had some great reactions to Russell's painting. Because of the positioning of the painting, it can be seen from outside and is particularly impressive when the sun shines on it. We've had people coming in because they saw the painting through the window. I think people enjoy seeing paintings in this context as opposed to the traditional gallery setting.”

Mark's Passion
“My friends say the painting depicts the shoot in Evestone Wood on Jaspers Drive. The reason it is called Jaspers Drive is because the name Jasper means wasps. When the shoot members were building the shoot, they hit the wasps nest and they all got stung including Mark's dog. I have placed the painting in my house and it attracts many good comments.”

Making Connections With Your Mind
“The moment I saw the painting I was struck by its movement and energy. I thought the title was perfect as the painting reminds me of electrical signals firing off in the brain. This contemporary painting looks wonderful in the context of our traditional house.”

Webs of Life Collection
“There are very few people who see it without commenting on it - so it's a talking point. Some of the comments we've had are: Stunning!, What's it meant to be?, Brings the room alive!, Fabulous colours!, Every time I look at it I see something different!, What a terrific focal point!”

Mr & Mrs Turner, St Michaels on Wyre, Webs of Life Collection

“Lisette and I met Russell and Debbie in Cuba, November 2009 while on a catamaran trip to some uninhabited islands. Thanks to a common sense of humour and new found love of rum we discovered his work as an artist and on returning to the UK bought some of his pieces and commissioned one further.

We are looking forward to seeing his new collection and secretly wish he remains undiscovered before his work is valued more in line with his talent.”

Nic & Lisette Powers, Mougins, Cote D'Azur

“Russell's paintings are vibrant, eye-catching and energetic . He is one of life's exuberant enthusiasts which is reflected in his work.”

Annie Livesey, Professional Artist, South of France

“The painting that Russell has done of me not only captures my role as a Postman in and around Timble, also expresses my great passion as a musician.

My role as Drum Major in The Yorkshire Volunteers Band a position I held in the British Army for many years.

The painting has vibrant colours and the structure of the painting reflects Russell's immense talent and his thirst for adventure into different themes and compositions.

This ability and diversity and experience shows he has a truly artistic eye. Our thanks and congratulations to Russell from myself and the band members for this great piece of work.”

Arabian Dawn
“The commission was based on my experiences in the Middle East and I am thrilled by the colours and texture which are vivid and exciting. Each time I view the painting, I'm transported back to those times and find myself reinterpreting the messages hidden within.”

Mr & Mrs A Twyning, Danehill, Sussex, Arabian Dawn

Friendship
“A highly personal canvas, painted for us by Russell after a chance encounter on a boat in the Indian Ocean. In his vibrant, exuberant style Russell has captured both the essence of us and of our relationship with him, quite a masterful feat. A much treasured painting that will never be for sale.”

Sue and Chris Fribbens, Asheridge, Bucks, Friendship

“We love the fact the painting tells a bit of a story about a very dear period in our lives. We get the full gamut of reactions from utter confusion to adoration! I think it's a great idea for a portrait of sorts – there is much more of a story there than if it were purely figurative.”

F------ Penguins, September 2008

“My husband and I acquired the piece on our wedding day as a gift having previously spotted it at the Timble Eye Gallery. The piece, originally entitled "The Blue Lady", has since taken on a new name, "F------ Penguins". Our interpretation of the piece, a beautiful cluster of penguins against an icy blue sea and snow tipped mountains, resulted in an outburst from Russell - it doesn't take a genius to guess what it was! Art is truly in the eye of the beholder and Russell embraces this mantra in every way. How many artists would allow you, a mere viewer, to rename their work? Not many I would hazard. Russell is a rare breed. He is neither precious about how his art is interpreted nor prescriptive about how you should view it and what you should take away from it. To us "Penguins" it is, and "Penguins" it will always be. The piece stands pride of place as the first thing you see when you step foot in our home.”

Victoria & Nick Henthorn, Saltaire, West Yorkshire

“These paintings are in our guest bedroom and everyone who visits comments how the vibrant colours light up the room.”

Olga Miiro Solar, Barcelona, Spain

“Russell’s creation of “Portman’s Temperance” had an extraordinary effect on me when I first saw it. The dramatic contrasts of colour, the woman, half hidden, stepping from darkness into the light of the “Flaming Menorah”, meaningful, yet intriguing symbols found only after long contemplation drew me not only into the beauty of these layered colours, but into what I see as the frail and transient nature of human existence. She moves , in deep reflection, of another world within herself. This mysteriousness is the attraction. A powerful composition – and now she is mine!
I hope, Russell continues to receive a wide recognition for his highly original work.”
